EDF National Trophy 18th Oct 2008
Earlsdon welcome Caldy, currently top of National league 3 North with 5 wins from 7 ,in an EDF Energy National Trophy round 1 match.
Caldy have made a rapid rise through the north west leagues and have based their success on nuturing players from their mini and junior setup. There are many Caldy players who have progressed through the ranks at Paton Field to National and International honours including:
Ben Johnson (England) Andy Maxwell (England) and Shaun Woof (England Under 21).Other members of Caldy Rugby have gained International recognition including Head Coach, Matt Holt (Barbarians) and Skills Coach, Christian Saverimutto (Ireland).
This is the first time that Earlsdon have been in such an elevated competition but it has been a sad time recently for the club with the deaths of 2 great stalwarts in Jack Carnall and John Jewitt. Both were instrumental in setting up and developing our own mini & junior section that has been a rich source of players who form the basis of our senior sides. To both men and their families Earlsdon RFC owe a debt of gratitude and well celebrate the day with a pint or 2 in their memories.
This is a fantastic day for Earlsdon and I hope the spectators enjoy the day as much as the players, officals and management of the respective clubs.
